Running into the cold Atlantic Ocean in winter sounds a bit crazy, doesn't it?? I thought so, but my husband and son definitely wanted to do it so we drove down to Ocean City for them to take the plunge on New Year's Day. Friends of ours have been doing it for years and they thought that since all the guys in the group had either turned 50 or will be in the new year, they should all do it together. Unfortunately, a few couldn't make it, and we weren't able to find the ones who were there in time since hundreds of people were on the beach for the 2 pm start, but we met other friends of ours there and one of them went in with my guys. Luckily, even though we had gotten alot of snow the week before, the weather was cooperating. The air temp was about 42 degrees or so and the water temp was high 30's. A bit tooooo cold for a girl who likes a hot bubble bath! So I stayed on land with a fleece jacket and scarf, and of course... my camera!
Brrrrrr.... winter Atlantic!
Those first few steps off the blanket onto the cold sand must feel both scary and exhilarating!
And there they are... in the ocean!! Ron dove under the water but Ronnie and Howard stayed above.
The quick rush back to the blanket for some warmth!!
Trying to warm up before getting dressed.
That's my adventuresome guy, happy he took the plunge on New Year's Day!
Have you ever done this? If not, would you? Tell me something wild or different that you have done or want to do!

Wow! I'm with you....much prefer a HOT Bubble Bath!! There is no freakin' way that I could even think of jumping in that frigid water! Congrats to your husband and son! I cannot even imagine doing it!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, NO WAY!
ReplyDeleteEven ME, who LOVES the cold would NEVER dip myself into the ocean during the winter months.
Brrrrrrrrrr!
Bravo to Ron! He's much braver than me!
